The teachers
Ann (Atesh)
Ann obtained her Egyptian Dance Leader Certificate at the Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance (JWAAD) in August 2004 and continues to study for her full Teachers certificate. She also regularly travels to Egypt and Turkey to study and take lessons with the top teachers. Having had no previous formal dance experience she has been studying Middle Eastern Dance for almost 8 years and set up MMED in 2002. Although Ann's first love is Egyptian she studied Turkish for 3 years with Melek who gave her the stage name of Atesh, (which means fire star). Her style is very individual, often quite cheeky and full of fun, dancing from the heart she encourages everyone to find themselves within the dance.
Catherine (Noura)
Catherine began studying for her Egyptian dance teacher training certificate at the Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance (JWAAD) in April 2005. She has been a student of Middle Eastern Dance for over 7 years, after studying ballet and tap dance for 18 years. Catherine started running her first regular Egyptian dance class in September 2004, which has already been very successful. Then in 2005, she received her Egyptian dance stage name (Noura, meaning inner light) from her teacher, friend and mentor: Ann. Her real passions are for earthy, traditional Baladi from Cairo and elegant modern Oriental dance, originally inspired by ballet. Email Noura@sevenveils.co.uk to contact Catherine. |
